And so it begins...
To add some context here, Paydesk (the website he pulls up) is a useful website where journalists can advertise themselves and it allows you to use keywords to show your skillset. One of these — as Jason points out — is 'Live Standup'. I can understand how a non-journalist could confuse this with me being a comedian, however in this industry, "a standup is when a television reporter appears in front of the camera to narrate part of a story – most often at the beginning to set up the story, or at the very end. Often the standups and voice-overs are read from a script the reporter has prepared beforehand."
So don't be fooled into thinking something that isn't true. To be fair to Jason, it was an easy mistake. In addition to this, Karlyn pays me nothing at all for the work I do. I rely on the people who become supporters of my locals and anyone who sends me a donation to say thanks. I enjoy doing this and know that pushing back means financial autonomy is important. I currently have Covid and feel pretty rough, however, I am still pushing forward with working on this because I know it is important.
At the end of the day, I do not know Jason or his followers, all I know is the character we see on his videos and his views. Those I find repugnant. However, what I won't do, nor will ever do is call him or his follower's names. I will tackle things in a fair and balanced way. I'm interested in the facts, not the feelings. Attack the ideas no the person. As Karlyn and I have said on many occasions, we believe that all views should be tolerated no matter how much we may dislike them, with the caveat that so long as they don't interfere with us. The issue here is that these groups set out to undermine the legitimate anti-CRT movement, therefore it must be called out. We don't call for censorship or to tell anyone what to do, instead, we want to give you the information so that if you feel that Jason's movement better aligns with your worldview, then at least go in with your eyes wide open.
